EMaH Master’s Students Take on the Challenges of the 2025 Sea & Coastal Hackathon
On the occasion of the 10th edition of the Sea & Coastal Hackathon, several first-year students from the EMaH Master’s programme (Marine and Fisheries Ecosystems) took part in this flagship event organized as part of the EUR IFSEA Sea and Coastal Innovation Festival.
Over three days, from 7 to 9 November 2025, the students worked in multidisciplinary teams alongside students from other IFSEA Master’s programmes (ITM, MPM, SIDE and PAUL) to develop innovative solutions addressing real-world challenges facing the maritime and coastal sectors.
A Valuable Learning Experience at the Heart of Innovation
For EMaH Master’s students, this immersive experience provided an outstanding opportunity to apply their scientific knowledge to practical challenges proposed by regional stakeholders. These challenges covered key issues such as the circular economy, ecological transition, sustainable management of port infrastructures, the valorisation of marine resources, and the attractiveness of coastal areas.
Throughout the weekend, participants also attended masterclasses on artificial intelligence, project management and public speaking, further strengthening both their technical expertise and transferable skills.
Ten Years of Innovation for Coastal Challenges
This anniversary edition celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Sea & Coastal Hackathon, featuring 10 challenges proposed by stakeholders from the Boulogne-sur-Mer seafood industry.
In total, 60 students from EUR IFSEA, divided into 10 multidisciplinary teams, combined their knowledge, creativity and teamwork to develop innovative and practical solutions to tomorrow’s maritime and coastal challenges.

🏆 1st Prize – SeaCircle Hatchery
Challenge: How can marine co-products become a driving force for the circular economy through innovative and scalable applications?

Challenge: How can marinas be redesigned to become both vibrant living spaces and models of environmental sustainability?
🥉 3rd Prize – Eau’Verdose
Challenge: What innovative collective uses could be developed around seawater in the years to come?

Challenge: What if seafood products could tell a new story?
⭐ Jury’s Second Favourite – Bustavia
Challenge: What new synergies can be created between the sea, land and forests to build a more sustainable future?
